Policoro

Policoro, is a town that draws its origins from an ancient city of Magna Graecia, Heraklea. In the past, this was an important city, because it was here that Pyrrhus fought a great battle against the Roman army.
Policoro is home to the National Museum of Siritide which houses Greek historical finds from the ancient cities of Heraklea and Siris. The finds preserved are of great value, from handcrafted jewellery to bronze armour.
In addition to the ancient Greek remains (you can also visit the Sanctuary of Demeter and the Archaic Temple of Dionysus), Policoro offers a splendid sea, beautiful, awarded with the Blue Flag in recent years as well as in 2019.
Even these waters have been chosen by the carretta carretta turtle to lay their eggs! Even the beaches of Policoro are no less: long expanses of light and soft sand meet the clear sea, creating fabulous views.
Moreover, in Policoro and in the nearby villages, every summer there are many events, festivals and fairs that propose typical local products and folkloristic shows.

WWF reserve and Bosco del Pantano

A few kilometers from Policoro, there is an area protected by the WWF, the Policoro Herakleia Oasis, where you can admire different species of birds, a real paradise for birdwatchers. More than 170 species of birds, in fact, stop inside the reserve.
Near Policoro you can also immerse yourself in nature through the Bosco del Pantano, another rich area protected by the WWF, where large deciduous forests dominate the landscape.

Metaponto Golf Club

A few kilometres from Policoro is the large Metaponto Golf Course. The structure, immersed in the green of nature, allows you to enjoy an 18-hole championship course. If you are a lover of golf here you can certainly put all your passion into play, or take lessons from expert and competent instructors..

Matera

Just 45 minutes away from Policoro is the beautiful city of Matera. The town, one of the oldest settlements in the world, has been recognized as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, European Capital of Culture in 2019. Pollino National Park

The Pollino National Park extends between two regions, Basilicata and Calabria. The park is, to date, the largest reserved and protected area in Italy. Here you can find long mountain ranges, the Apennines, and a great variety of fauna. There is, in fact, the Wolf and there is no lack of large birds of prey such as the Golden Eagle. Inside the park it is possible to make wonderful and interesting organized excursions.

Castelli Federiciani (Frederick’s Castles)

The Frederick Castles rise in Apulia and represent a real bridge with the past and with the great Frederick II of Swabia, a strong and charismatic man, who considered Italy his true homeland. For this reason he founded numerous castles in Italy. There are 39 castles built by Frederick II in Apulia, all the result of his strong passion for manors. The structures were not only thought of as a fortress for defense, but as a tool to show their strength and culture. A tour of these castles is certainly a fascinating experience not to be missed.

Itria Valley

The Itria Valley is a real paradise for the eyes. Huge expanses of olive trees, a colorful and fragrant land that crosses the Apulian provinces of Bari, Brindisi and Taranto.
